summer sunday

‘I love the South of France, Mummy’, said Milly with a sigh as the warm sea lapped gently onto the soft sandy beach. I gazed out at the blue waters of the Mediterranean where a few yachts bobbed gently beyond the golden sands under the warm southern sun. ‘I know darling’ I smiled. ‘What’s it like back in the North?’ I asked. ‘It’s raining’ answered Milly, 'and Tilly has a cold and she’s been sneezing over everybody’. ‘Well’, I began, ‘Perhaps I’ll bring you on holiday next year after I’ve finished my book. In the meantime, this call is costing me a fortune and I'm not made of money you know’. 'Yes you are', said Milly, ''We've been reading your blog while you've been away'. I never could get the hang of parental controls. 'You should be doing your homework, not going on the internet!' I told her firmly. Milly sighed. ‘Sorry Mummy’, she said. ‘I’d better go now too, I have to make hot toddies for everyone and I can’t find any brandy, only empty bottles.’ We said our goodbyes. I was due to be away for another few days but, thinking about my poor children being so unwell, I soon began to worry. I immediately rang my travel agent to try and get another flight home He was ever so helpful and when I hung up I was mightily relieved that I’d managed to rearrage my return flight. Thank goodness, I thought, I'd managed to get another week out here.

You did the right thing. After all, what good would you be to your sick children if you returned from sunny parts to nurse them - and Caught What They Have Got??? Stay well away (2,000 miles should do it) from those nasty germs.

Darling Rilly,

Thank God you have posted again. I hate to be the only self centred mother in this country, but as long as I know you are alive and well, I am not alone. Steer well clear of the little ones, if it not colds and coughs, it is scabies, ring work and head lice!

Do you have one agent who fulfills your many needs Rilly?

So it's your little darlings' fault you have stayed away so long? Don't do it again!

Rilly, I am parted from my loved one, he - holder of the credit card, and I am left holding the baby, as it were, I don't care if the eldest one is 16, it gets no easier. Maybe he is staying away as it's prom season.

A posting from our dear Rilly - so all is right with the world.

Good job she decided to stay away a bit longer or could well have been stuck waiting on one of the planes full of passengers waiting to disembark at Glasgow airport.

Dulwichmum - 'Ring work' sounds horrible! I think sheep [or cows] catch that - perhaps you should run your children through the sheep dip as soon as you get home Rilly.

Oh Rilly, what an enchanting life you lead. One has just returned from a sojourn at Pwhelli at a charming holiday park, that used to be Butlins.

The knobbly knees contests are no more, alas.

I'm sure you would have found it very quaint, especially the Abba tribute act who appeared to think Bjorn and Co were from Berlin.

I think the Sun holidays are back on soon, do look out for the vouchers.

Dear Rilly,
How lovely to have you back again! You are very naughty, but I've missed your postings.

See how you have been missed Rilly! It must be a great comfort to you after having had to spend your holiday writing your book! Do tell us how it's all progressing btw.......

I mean to take my laptop with me when I go to Italy next month too. I shall simply pack up all my characters and take them away on a holiday - otherwise I'm not sure I'd ever get back to blogging again.

So good to have you back, Rilly! You could always stretch to another week in the lovely South of France if you decide to write your sequel!

Juan Les Pins rather than a barge on a canal I take it?

What I find so surprising is that it isn't just oop North that is experiencing rain and general un Pimms like weather. It's happening down South too - goodness - it's even happening in the Channel Islands!

What I hate is not being able to snigger at the news footage of rain sodden Britain. Because I'm here experiencing it. Normally, I'm away somewhere drier and warmer (like you currently are).

jj, thankyou, I always try and do the right thing you know. I've read all the manuals..

dulwichmum, self centred mother, you? who is the other one then?

stay at home dad, My literary and travel agents are totally seperate and alas still leave certain of my needs unfulfilled, sigh

M&M, I mustn't really blame them, the poor dears, but ,ok, yes, it was their fault really

marianne, nice to see you too as I know you didn't really mean that 'heart of stone' comment, did you?

rivergirlie, thanks for dropping by. what have you been doing overyour 'a' key to make it sticky though dear?

mopsa, oh but there was any coitus to interuptus darling, sigh

emma, sob, I know, sigh, think of all the hard luck stories about how grim it is up north I could have got from that. Yet another missed opportunity..

mr farty, thankyou, and glad to be back

secretary, crikey, that is some papoose you must have! Ah , yes, proms, I have some experience with my eldest daughter Hilly on that front but I am prevented by her injunction from writing about it, sigh

thinker, if only I could make everything alright with the world, but alas I am just another of our world's suffering and troubled number..

linda, your sigh of resignation indicates to my amazing powers of empathy and understanding that you had rather fancied your chances in the knobbly knees contest.
I did see an abba tribute band here in the north a couple of years ago. I don't think it was the same one as these were more welsh.
what is this 'the sun' that you mention? is it something poor people read?

motheratlarge, I thought you were calling me very Naughtie for a momment and I probably would have put that in my sidebar to save for the critics quotes for the book cover, sigh. Thankyou for dropping in and hope to catch up on the adventures of you and the bean...

beatrice, I hope all your characters behave whilst in Italy and do not end up acting as typical 'english abroad' à la Forster. Keep a close eye on them.

flowerpot, thanks ever so for dropping by. sounds like it's as dreich where you are as it has been where I am, sigh

anonmymous, and hurragh that people still visit afer two weeks too!

drunkmummy, I hadn't thought as far as a sequal but it means if I can get another fortnight on the beach, call it work and claim it against tax then maybe I need to get my thinking cap on...

debio, thanks for checking in even when I had been away. I wish i had asked you to water the plants now..

@mill, I don't know anyone xalled Juan but I can assure you that I would rather hope for more from my romantic encounters than a 'barge' or whatever dreadful northern slang for the act of love you used there!

sarnia, well, they do say on the Normandy coast as they look north to the channel islands 'bah, c'est grim up du nord' you know.
